Red meat kills. In an impressive study covering 448,568 people, European researchers found a direct link between consuming red meat and premature death. They accounted for other factors, like age, lifestyle, smoking, etc., and the link still exists.
The safe amount of red meat one can eat per day appears to be 20 gram. It is close to impossible to stick to this amount on a daily basis, so the golden rule could be no more than 140 gram (0.3 lb) of red meat per week. If you regularly eat pepperoni pizza or omelet with bacon, you’d better forget about other red meat dishes.
Red meat includes beef, pork, mutton/lamb, horse, and goat. Chicken or turkey are not considered read (they are called white meat). We have doubts that lamb is as guilty as beef and pork, and will investigate this issue further. Keep yourself posted and eat less red meat.
